INTERNATIONAL DAY

International Day is a very special event which we always look forward to at our school

We had a fabulous day on Friday, everybody dressed up, including all the teachers and it was heartwarming to see that so many of our students had made a real effort to join in the celebration of our International Day. It is impossible to describe how much this event means to all our students and staff. It is always a very important occassion on the school calendar.

The Kapa Haka opened both the Y7 and Y8 assemblies and with such a large group it was a very energetic and stylish performance. Thank you to all the students who participated in the assemblies; we admire the confidence and passion when they showcase their culture. Many of our teachers were also involved in supporting the groups by providing quite an intense practice schedule. This has been another opportunity to form new friendships.

Thankfully, the weather on Friday was on our side and it was a perfect day for an outside shared lunch featuring a huge number of delicious dishes - we were spoiled for choice. The overall atmosphere was vibrant, fun and entertaining.

The whakatauki, he rau ringa e oti ai was in full swing throughout the day.

Please see the programme for a list of the groups who performed in the assemblies. The photos tell the full story.

Thank you so much to our community for supporting our International Day, and to all the parents who turned up, we hope you enjoyed being part of our special celebration.

YEAR 7 HIP HOP DANCE OFF

At the end of Term 3, our Year 7 classes celebrated the end of our Hip Hop Dance Unit. The stage was set for an epic battle where each class put forward its UBER Dance Crew.

The groups went all out, rehearsing in their spare time and donning some pretty flash costumes to compete for the coveted title of 2025 Year 7 Hip Hop Class.

This year, the title goes to the crew from Room 18
Parker Poppleton
Henry Wilson
Dev Mahesh
Edward Chen
Ella Mills
Tegan McDonald

Thank you to all the performers. The Dance Off was a great success and a wonderful way to finish our Hip Hop Dance sessions with Ritchie. Also to our judges, Mrs King and Mr Peacock.

RI CHEER TAKES SECOND AT CHEER FACTOR HAMILTON!

Our Cheer Team has shown an incredible level of commitment to cheerleading since Term 1. They have trained three times a week all year long, demonstrating dedication, teamwork, and determination. All that hard work has led to two major competitions this year: Cheer Factor and the Cheerleading NZ National Championships.

Cheer Factor took place on Sunday, 22 September, the very first day of the recent school holidays, at Claudelands Event Centre in Hamilton.
Our team competed in the Scholastic Division, going up against high schools from across the country, and we were the only intermediate school in the entire division.

Despite the tough competition, the team performed exceptionally well and came away with a fantastic second place! Their performance was delivered with energy, precision, and confidence, impressing both judges and spectators.
Mrs Stead couldn’t be prouder of them, and their coaches, Scarlett and Becca, share that pride.

But it’s not over yet! The CNZ National Championships are coming up over Labour Weekend in Rotorua, and the team is continuing its busy training schedule. We wish our athletes all the best as they aim even higher on the national stage. Go RI Cheer!

MULTI MATERIALS NEWS

A TREASURE TROVE OF IDEAS

Current Year 8 Multi Materials students have almost completed their first major project -The Treasure Chest. Students have used a variety of construction processes to add functional features to their treasure chests, such as handles, hinges, hasps, legs, and internal partitions.

They have also applied decorative elements to the exterior, such as laser-cut shapes and crests. They have finished off their work by applying paint, stains, and stencils to give their work a unique look. Materials they have explored and experimented with in this cycle include metal, acrylic plastic, wood, rope, leather, and 3d printing filament

CZ VOLLEYBALL

Boys

The volleyball boys made an awesome start to their CZ tournament at the North Shore Events Centre. They played their first match as they meant to go on, working as a team and beating St Paul’s 35-17. After defeating the other teams in their pool, RI went on to play the semifinals against Waikowhai, who won the tournament and unfortunately lost in a closely contested match.

Their last game against Wesley Intermediate was also a nail-biter, but they pulled off the win 39-31 to take third place. Not only did the boys play outstandingly, but they were fantastic ambassadors for our school with their sportsmanship and positive attitudes. Overall, a great day was had by all.

Boys Team: Will Johnston, Isaac Martin, Tupou Kata, Taiyo Chueh, Jake Janiurek, Winner Thayaparan, Len Ozeki, Samvit Gupta, Avenishk Sooriyakumara, Ollie Lethborg

Girls

Our CZ Volleyball girls had a great time preparing for the Volleyball tournament, which was held on October 16th at Eventfinda Stadium.
We trained hard to perfect our serves, spikes and blocks - with lots of laughter and memories weaved in! On the day, we played really well in our pool.
We communicated well, had some great shots… including some fantastic serving!

We only lost one game, to Waikowhai Intermediate, in our pool games which left us with a very well deserved third place overall. We were so pleased with ourselves on the taxi ride back to school, which consisted of ice creams and some questionable celetabory singing.

Girls Team: Azariah Lilomaiava, Charlotte Arthurs, Keasi Taufa, Shaseni Nanthivarman, Sibley Schaumkell, Olivia Jackson, Maria Williams, Waka Moriya, Becca Laarman, Jessica Thompson

INTERNATIONAL LANGUAGES WEEK

This week, we truly went global for International Languages Week!
We began our journey in Darkest Peru, following Paddington Bear's experiences as he starts a new life in London. His story resonated deeply, touching on everything from the grief of leaving home to the awkwardness of name pronunciation and the challenge of finding a new place to belong.

You know the story, "Around the World in 80 Days"? Well, instead of 80 days, RI took a virtual "Round the World in 20 Minutes" trip, tasting popular destinations, learning about their iconic monuments, and practicing basic greetings. Our journey continued to Mexico, where we experienced how children celebrate Día de los Muertos (Day of the Dead)—a fascinating prelude to Halloween.
Finally, we visited India, where our girls enjoyed getting Henna designs as an early nod to the upcoming Diwali celebrations. We certainly didn't forget the boys! They led a spirited, safer version of the traditional Indian sport, Kabaddi, sharing its cultural significance with less tackling.

A huge thank you to our incredible committee members for their organization: Mustafa Jamall, Deiviya Dhileepan, Ankush Ray, Ganasiyam Lingeshann, Swarun Arun, Sandasi Wijesekera, Hania Alizada, and C. W. Lee.

And of course, no hero is complete without their sidekicks: Arianna Chin, Gabe Chin, Martha Mutasa, Sarina Nak-Iam, Amairah Bajaj, Zayed Shaikh, and Miara Tiwari.
