EXCHANGE PROGRAMMES

Japan Exchange

RI has a sister-school relationship with Befu Elementary School in Fukuoka in Japan.

Each year 30 students are chosen for an exchange to this school.

The objectives for these exchanges are:

  • To provide an opportunity for our students to develop understanding, knowledge and an appreciation of other cultures.

  • To provide opportunities for comparing lifestyles.

  • To foster ongoing friendships.

  • To develop skills of interdependency and social integration.

This Japan exchange is approximately 10 days long and occurs around early September. Students are accompanied by RI staff.

Every second year, RI hosts a reciprocal visit from students and teachers from Befu Elementary School. This is a wonderful opportunity for all of our School to experience some Japanese culture and to share our culture.  Befu students are billeted with RI families.

Applications for 2025 are now closed.

Thailand Exchange

Remuera Intermediate School alongside Remuera Primary School are thrilled to be able to provide an annual exchange with our sister school Satit Chula Elementary School in Bangkok, Thailand.

The intention for this exchange is that it is reciprocal - whereby students come from Bangkok and are hosted by a student in Auckland and in turn, when we return to Bangkok later in the year, the students will stay with their student. This allows families to establish relationships with one another, and students to feel more comfortable and confident while we are away.

In Term One, students and teachers from Satit Chula Elementary School visited both schools for two and a half weeks. The students and teachers were hosted by families within our community and were able to experience a regular school day, school camp and a range of tourist attractions both in and around Auckland. Some amazing friendships were formed, and some lifelong memories created.

Term Four will see a group of 12 students and two teachers head off to Bangkok for 12 days. Students will be hosted by Thai families, and get to experience a new language, climate, school life, local culture, local sights and attractions.
