Over the past 18 months, the Enviro Team have been hard at work on multiple projects around the school which will provide students with hands-on learning opportunities in regards to sustainability and food production.
Our first project was to create a school vegetable garden where we could provide the Food Technology Room with fresh produce harvested right from the garden. What was once an unused dirt bank has now been turned into a fully functioning vegetable garden. We are now into our second year with the garden and the students have taken up the opportunity to learn how to grow, harvest, and prepare fresh produce.
Most recently we have welcomed four new ladies to Remuera Intermediate. These chickens have taken up home in a nice quiet spot around the back of our school in the Fruit Orchard. The Enviro Squad has been learning how to take care of the chickens and the Food Technology Room has been enjoying their daily fresh eggs. These chickens add another cog to our understanding of the food cycle and sustainability.
The Enviro Students have done an outstanding job with their efforts to create and maintain the Enviro spaces around the school.
