Board of Trustees Newsletter May 2019
Last week we had a team from the Education Review Office in the school. Their job is to evaluate and report on the education and care of children and young people in early childhood services and schools.
It was a really positive week with the team particularly appreciative of the many opportunities to korero with staff and students. They noted that students appear to have a strong sense of belonging and that our belief statements are evident throughout the school.
The final ERO report is due in July and will be shared with the school community as soon as it is available.
Voting for the Board of Trustees parent representatives has now closed.
As previously advised, the Board has been working on a Master Property Plan for the school in alignment with our strategic goals and considering various health and safety needs. The Ministry of Education allocates a fixed amount of property funding to all schools every 5 years based on total roll size irrespective of zoning. The next allocation is due in July 2019. As part of the 5YA funding process, the Ministry undertakes a condition assessment on existing buildings and prioritises spending based on this assessment. Any remaining funds from the 5YA allocation are then prioritised by the school to achieve strategic objectives.
We have been advised that the bulk of our next property funding allocation will be used to address leaky building issues in the main administration building and to re-roof the main classroom block. This has necessitated a change in the priority of other property projects as follows:
● Classroom modernisation in main block
● Provide safe pedestrian access from main entrance to hall
● Bike sheds, covered outdoor play area, new toilet block
● Modernisation programme for prefabs
Further updates will be available as soon as project timings are available from the Ministry.
Thank you to all the parents and caregivers who took the time to complete our survey last week. The information gathered is being collated and the new Board will review the feedback and report back to the parent community early next term.
