At Remuera Intermediate, our three core values are Reliability, Integrity and Service. These values guide not only our learning and relationships at school but also how our students represent themselves and our community beyond the classroom.
In recent weeks, we have received wonderful feedback from members of the public. Whether at sporting events, on school excursions, or in everyday interactions around the community, people have noticed the way our students conduct themselves. They have been recognised for their fairness on the field, their respect and courtesy towards others, and their pride in being part of Remuera Intermediate.
Of particular note is the way our students demonstrate integrity, doing the right thing even when no one is watching. This quality is vital as it builds trust and shows strong character. When combined with reliability and service, it reflects the values we aim to instill in every young person at our school.
We are very proud of our students. Their actions in the wider community are a testament to the support and guidance they receive at home as well as the strength of the values we uphold together. Thank you for partnering with us to help our young people live out these important principles.

CROSS COUNTRY NEWS
It was a perfect day for a challenging race, and our cross-country team was more than ready for it! The great weather, combined with plenty of rain from the past week, created plenty of mud, which made for an even better race.
With over 60 runners competing in each race, the competition was fierce. Our runners showed incredible grit and determination, pushing through the difficult conditions and leaving everything out on the course.
A huge congratulations to our standout runners who led the charge and delivered impressive results. We're proud to highlight the top finishers who will represent our school at Interzone:

REHU TAI FESTIVAL OF ORAL LANGUAGE
On Wednesday, 13th August, four very talented Year 8 students represented our school at the Rehu Tai - Festival of Oral Language - Cluster Finals held at Dilworth Junior Campus. It was the first time in RI history that we had a representative in every category. The categories were Flash Talk, Rap, Spoken Word, and Formal Speeches. It was a tough competition, but the RI students presented with confidence, creativity, and flair, making us incredibly proud of their achievements and the way they showcased their passion for language.
A special congratulations to our place-getters: Spencer Thom - 1st place in Rap, Adwaith Sreejith - 2nd place in Flash Talk, and Jeremy Shi - 3rd equal in Formal Speeches. Ka pai to all our representatives for making RI history!
PERFORMANCE NEWS
It is almost the end for the Year 8 Performance Media cycle 2 class. They have participated in a varied programme blending the three performing arts with learning to plan, produce and edit video content.
These photos are all screenshots from the advertisements they created to promote a new product or service. Throughout the course, they learn about every stage of video production.
WHAT'S HAPPENING IN THE ART ROOM
Year 8 students have been completing their mixed media work. They needed to combine handmade paper, etching based on the pods we used for our ceramics and stitching using flax string. Some chose to emboss (press their pods through the press without ink). The work was all about simplicity and balance, using textures and shape
CYCLING NEWS- FINAL TEAM TRIAL
Sunday, 10th August 2025, marked the sixth and final Team Time Trial of the season for the RI Road Cycling crew at the Pukekohe racetrack. The races were held at either Pukekohe racetrack or along the rural roads near Otaua.
The Year 8 team of Jack Delahunty, Flynn McRae, and Alex Ward set off into a cool breeze with their grit and typical determination. As this was the final race for the season and with only three riders, the priority was maintaining a good rhythm and looking after each other by staying together. Jack showed great perseverance to carry on and complete the race despite not having been able to train due to a nasty winter illness.
Overall, the RI Road cycling team has had a great season, having completed all the races this year. Each event has had a revolving team of riders across both Year 7 and Year 8, which bodes well for the future.
This race also marked the last Team Time Trial for these boys in the RI Cycling team. Next year, they will go on to represent their secondary schools with some solid racing skills under their belts. All the best for the future!
STUDENT NEWS
Congratulations to Janiru from room 10, who competed at the Taekwon-Do Nationals last week. He competed in 3 events and won a Gold medal for sparring and a bronze medal for team sparring in his category.
