As we head into the easter school holidays, I have been reflecting on the term that was. With the one day week at the start of the year, this has effectively been a nine week term. In this very short amount of time, we have managed to host our annual community picnic and meet-the-teacher evening. All 29 classes have attended camp, and the Year 8 students have attended Waterwise.
Numerous teams have competed at the Auckland Intermediate School Interzone competitions. Netball, football, and basketball teams have started regular practices. Teachers and students have completed their new year assessments, and classroom programmes have gotten underway, along with enrichment and support programmes.
This is only the highlights reel of what has been going on. Today, I thanked our staff for their tireless commitment and energy. Despite the countless hours they have put into supporting our young people, they continue to come to school each day as committed as ever and with a smile on their faces.
It is this attitude and effort on the part of our teaching staff that has led to another round of exceptional academic results. Early next term, I will share the findings from our recent round of schoolwide assessments. Suffice it to say that academics continue to remain our core purpose, complemented by a plethora of opportunities for our young people to experience as they discover who they are in the world.
For now, it is time to rest and recharge, ready for an equally busy term ahead. Take care, be safe, and enjoy some quality time with friends and family over the easter break.

TEACHER'S CURRICULUM TRAINING DAYS
Students will be returning to school on Wednesday, 30 April, to commence Term 2. The first Monday, 28 April, and Tuesday, 29 April, are Curriculum Training Days for our teachers.
The focus of this training is specifically on the delivery of Mathematics and the use of the government-funded resources. New resources and assessment tools are also being developed. To support these changes, the government is providing Professional Learning and Development to all teachers across New Zealand. With over 2000 primary and Intermediate schools, this training has to be delivered over an extended period.
We look forward to sharing more on this throughout the remainder of the year.
2025 KAPA KAHUI KAPA HAKA FESTIVAL
On 10 April 2025, our kapa haka groups attended the 2025 Kapa Kahui Kapa Haka Festival at Cornwall Park District School. The event brought together students from across Auckland Central Schools to share their learning and understanding of Te Ao Māori through powerful kapa haka performances. Our school's performance was heartwarming and left many in the audience with goosebumps. It was a moment of immense pride for our community, showcasing the dedication and passion of our students. Well done to everyone involved in making this special day a true celebration of culture, unity, and talent.
YEAR 8 CAMPS - ROOMS 3, 4 & 5
Rooms 3, 4, and 5 recently returned from an amazing adventure at Hunua Falls Camp. Students had an amazing time exploring the outdoors, taking on new challenges, and stepping out of their comfort zones. From the individual challenge of our tramp to the team challenges on our rotation day, it was a camp full of laughter, learning, and lasting memories. One of the highlights was seeing new friendships form and the culture strengthen between the 3 classes. It was a fantastic few days that will be remembered for a long time!
YEAR 7 CAMP - WHAT A BLAST!
What an amazing time we have had at our Year 7 Camp. We have all enjoyed watching our students challenge and push themselves with all of the activities undertaken.
From scaling walls to leaping off high structures securely fastened with harnesses, then trudging through mud, dodging tires and cargo nets. Each and every one of our students did something that they thought they wouldn’t do, and have come away feeling quite proud of their achievements - and so they should be.
The days were long and full of fun. The late night on the first night seemed like a great idea until the challenges of day 2 unfolded. We certainly had a few students fall asleep during the movie, and many were quite happy to settle down quickly on the second night.
It was a camp of two halves, with Green Camp getting the fine weather and Blue Camp getting the rain. The students really didn't mind too much about the weather as it was warm and the winds stayed away. The mudslide and confidence course were a group favorite, but we think the rain only made it better.
Our teachers and parents once again made our camp experience super enjoyable. Spirits were kept high with encouragement from the adults, and our students showed us they are a determined and resilient cohort who were keen to give everything a go.
Our thanks go out to everyone who was involved in our camp, it could not have proceeded without this group effort. A special thanks to the PTA for providing teachers with a meal on their return from camp - what a treat!

LOST PROPERTY
As we head into the cooler months, we are asking families to check that all school uniform items are labelled clearly. The morning starts are a bit cooler during terms 2 and 3, and students will often discard their jackets and jerseys around the school as the day warms up. At the end of this term, we had over 20 jackets that were found without names on them, so they were unable to be returned to their owner.
Please check that student names are visible, and please remove any names of the original owner if the items have been purchased in the second-hand sale.
Unclaimed items will be washed and returned to the PTA for sale at the next second-hand uniform event.
