PRINCIPAL'S MESSAGE

THE MAGIC OF A STRONG SCHOOL COMMUNITY

There’s something pretty special about our school community. It’s more than just classrooms and textbooks—it’s a place where students, teachers, and families come together to support, encourage, and lift each other up. And honestly? We think that’s worth celebrating!

Take our Community Picnics, for example. Nothing beats hanging out on the grass, sharing some food, and watching kids run around like they have unlimited energy (seriously, where does it come from?). It’s these moments that remind us that school is about so much more than learning—it’s about connection.

Then there’s our Meet the Teacher events, where parents get to put a face to the name, ask all their burning questions, and see just how much our teachers genuinely care. We love that these nights build strong partnerships, making sure our students have the best possible support from both home and school.

And let’s not forget our afterschool sports, huge shoutout to our teachers who not only help in the classroom but also step up as coaches, mentors, and the biggest cheerleaders for our students. Whether it's football, netball, or softball, these activities are all about teamwork, confidence, and, of course, having a blast.

Looking ahead, we’ve got some amazing camps coming up! Whether it’s hiking, team challenges, or sitting around with friends sharing a laugh, these trips are all about adventure, challenge, and memories that last a lifetime.

But let’s be real, none of this would be possible without our amazing families. The support, the encouragement and the volunteer efforts all make our school community the incredible place it is.

So, here’s to all of us—the students, the teachers, the parents, and everyone in between—making our school a place where kids thrive, friendships grow, and learning is an adventure. Keep being awesome!

RI PTA: A BUSY START OF THE YEAR

It has been a busy and exciting start to the year for the Remuera Intermediate School PTA. In January, we successfully organised and hosted the Second-Hand Uniform Sale, raising over $10,000 for the school. This achievement would not have been possible without the generous uniform donations from past families and the invaluable assistance of the William Pike student volunteers.

The highlight of Term 1 so far has been our annual RI School Community Picnic. It was a fantastic opportunity to bring the community together. With 30 parents volunteering, we sold 350 sausages and served over 300 cans of drinks, creating a fun and engaging atmosphere for all involved.

In the coming weeks, the PTA will provide ready meals for teachers returning from school camp, with the support of parents who will pick up and deliver these meals to the school.

The sense of community and collaboration between parents, RI staff, and students has been truly inspiring, and the PTA looks forward to more successful events and initiatives in the months ahead!

CZ GIRLS SOFTBALL

The girls' softball team competed in a tournament on Tuesday, February 25. The day started with an unexpected twist—there was no bus due to a "funny" story—but that didn’t stop the team from pushing forward with determination.

The girls played hard, finishing with two wins and two losses. Unfortunately, they narrowly missed the playoffs after falling to the team that advanced. Despite the outcome, it was a fantastic day filled with fun, teamwork, and valuable lessons. Great effort, team!

CZ BOYS CRICKET

Our boys' cricket teams played at Keith Hay Park in the annual Central Zone competition, showing great teamwork and skill throughout the day. With some outstanding fielding and impressive bowling efforts, they put real pressure on their opposition and represented the school proudly. Going through their pool games with convincing wins, both teams made the final. Unfortunately, it wasn't our day but the boys should be proud of their efforts. Well done, team!

A special thanks to Zach, Mr Caron and the parents who helped with the day.

Results:
Year 8 Boys = 2nd
Year 7 Boys = 2nd

WATER WISE - ROOM 30

Room 30 had a fantastic day at Orakei Basin with Sailing, Paddle boarding, kayaking and Windsurfing.  Only 1 capsized and one sailing crew had a fish somehow end up in their boat!  Fun was had by all.

CZ BOYS SOFTBALL

The Boys Central Zone Softball team participated in a tournament on Thursday, February 27, at War Memorial Park in Mount Roskill. Despite a rainy start, the team showed resilience, bouncing back from a tough opening loss with a strong win. Throughout the day, they embraced the opportunity to learn and improve. Spirits remained high, and they capped off the tournament with a solid team victory, thanks to contributions from everyone.

It was a fantastic day filled with smiles, camaraderie, and plenty of laughs.
Well done, boys!
