Auckland Schools MTB XC Race #3

Another good turnout from RI for this series of MTB races. The race was held at Totara Park on Sunday, 7th August.  Well done to all riders that competed.

The conditions were extremely challenging and all riders should be proud of their efforts. The difficulty of the course could be seen by the large number of riders walking their bikes across the finish line.

Hunua Mountain Bike Race

The RI cycling team had great success at the Auckland Secondary Schools Mountain Bike Race 1 on March 15 with a first place going to Cole Feringa and a second place awarded to Nova Taylor in their respective events.

Overall Remuera Intermediate bikers performed well with many riders completing the gruelling first loop within the allowed timeframe and also finishing the second loop of this tough race.

Team spirit was high and we wish to thank Head Coach Duncan and all of the parents and supporters.

NZ BMX Nationals

Year 8 student, Cole Feringa, recently competed in the NZ BMX Nationals competition where he achieved an amazing result of 4th in the 13yr age group.

The competition was tough in the field of 28 very capable riders. Cole has been training hard for many months to achieve this result and it’s the first time in his many years of competing that he has made it to the final 8.

Cycling - Pukekohe Points Race

Sunday 16th May marked the first road race of the 2021 season for our RI cyclists.
An awesome effort was made by all our riders for their first ever road race. Duncan Turnbull, our parent in charge of the Cycling Club, was really impressed that at this age our riders are strategizing, using drafting and teamwork.
He says the learning from these races is invaluable -  What speed can I hold for 4+ laps? When do I sprint? What gear should I be in? Who should I draft behind? Can I find someone to work with as a team, to catch up to the bunch?
