All auditions are finished. Any student still needing to audition see Mrs Kearney in class time.

Annual Music Levy  - $70.00  All students will be billed after auditions and sign-up

(One Fee $70 per student includes one or more groups and all lessons.)

There are a number of extra curricula music activities available to students. Any students wishing to participate needs to see Mrs Kearney at the correct time in week one.

A Music Levy of $70 will be invoiced for each group if a student gains a place.

Violin Lessons

Group violin lessons are offered to students from beginner to Grade 4. No previous experience is required however students should not have a violin teacher outside the school programme. Tuition is provided by Dr John Thomson and lessons are held on Fridays during class time. All students who learn violin are expected to participate in the school orchestra. A limited number of Violins are available to rent for $60 per year.

Orchestra

The orchestra is the most amazing opportunity for young orchestral musicians to get involved. Students learn to play in a group, develop responsibility and awareness of others, learn to be well organised with their time management and music folder and represent their school to an excellent standard.

Auditions for the RI Orchestra are held on the second day of Term 1. Full orchestra rehearsals are held on Fridays from 8-9am and each section has an additional weekly rehearsal. Students must commit to a full year and be prepared to play at Awards Assemblies, Competitions and the end of the year RI Carol Service (a fundraiser for the Auckland City Mission).

Piano Club

This is for all students who love piano and keyboard. Weekly performances at assemblies and in the music room will be organised by Mrs Kearney. Students can also learn pop and blues keyboard using the Garage Band Computer programme at lunch times. Students need their own private piano teacher as this is not a lesson programme.

Rock Bands

The Rock Bands are auditioned as spaces are limited. Students need to be competent musicians and be able to commit to a rehearsal time each week until they perform at BandQuest in Term 3. Students learn how to run a rock band and how to write songs for a band. Students also have the opportunity to enter songs in NZ Song competitions, have their original songs professionally recorded by the JamBus and perform at school functions.

DJ Club

DJ Club is open to all students. Participants learn to mix beats and write their own tracks and perform at the annual Wearable Arts show.

String Orchestra

The String Orchestra is an auditioned group for gifted and talented students conducted by Dr John Thomson who rehearses with the group on Fridays. Mrs Kearney also rehearses with this group at 7.45am on Wednesdays and manages all aspects of repertoire and performances. The group performs advanced music at the end of year Prizegiving and there is also an opportunity for soloists to perform concertos. Students who are invited to audition for this group must also be in the school orchestra. Auditions will be held the second Friday of Term 1. Please listen out for the notice.
